Kanab Visitor Center
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument
Kanab addresses the Geology and Archeology of the Monument.
The Archeology exhibit features a simulated dig site of an Anasazi village. An adjacent mural depicts the village in use by the ancients. In this context, the visitor experiences the process that scientists use to learn about the lifestyle of these peoples.
The Geology exhibit features a 36-foot long depiction of a cut through the monument that exposes the millions of years of stratified layers. By accessing portals into each layer the visitor discovers an actual sample of rock along with how the landscape appeared when it was formed.
World-class photos of the Monument’s many remarkable formations highlight the forces of erosion.
“Ask the Experts” interactive videos supplement the exhibit.
